Actions : | Quinolones act by formation of a ternary complex between DNA and DNA gyrase (topoisomerases II) (genes gyr A and gyr B) or topoisomerases IV (genes by C and E). These enzymes are directly involved in the disruption and supercoiling mechanisms of DNA during replication to facilitate the action of DNA polymerase. The antibacterial activity Gram - passes mainly by the inhibition of the DNA gyrase activities while the anti-Gram + activity seems to go through the blocking of the topoisomerase IV. |
