Quinolones act by formation of a ternary complex between DNA and DNA gyrase (topoisomerases II) (genes gyr A and gyr B) or topoisomerases IV (genes by C and E). These enzymes are directly involved in the disruption and supercoiling mechanisms of DNA during replication to facilitate the action of DNA polymerase. The antibacterial activity Gram - passes mainly by the inhibition of the DNA gyrase activities while the anti-Gram + activity seems to go through the blocking of the topoisomerase IV.
One tablet contains 400 mg pipemidic acid (as trihydrate)
Uncomplicated, acute or recurrent lower urinary tract infections in adults with sensitive germs.
